What vaccinations are available at La Follette OB-GYN?
Vaccinations are very important for all of us, but especially for pregnant women. At La Follette OB-GYN, we provide vaccines for the flu, HPV, tetanus, pertussis (Tdap), and diphtheria. All are recommended by ACOG, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the CDC.
HPV vaccines are usually given between the ages of 9-26 and protect women against the most common strains of the human papillomavirus (which can result in cancer and genital warts). Being properly vaccinated can be a lifesaver for mothers and their newborns.
Our goal is protect women and their babies against preventable diseases during and after pregnancy, and at all stages of a woman’s life.
What vaccinations are available for women 65 Years old and older?
For women over the age of 65, we recommend shingles and pneumonia vaccinations. With shingles, this vaccine should only be given to patients who have never had the chicken pox before. The shingles vaccine can also be given to women who plan to become pregnant but it cannot be issued during pregnancy. If a woman were to get the chickenpox while pregnant, her baby could become very sick.
If there is a history of smoking in your family, or if you have lung disease, you may need to receive the pneumonia vaccine before the age of 65.
