Are fat loss and weight loss the same thing?

The number of fat cells in an adult body doesn’t usually change. When people gain weight, the extra fat accumulates in the fat cells, making them larger. Body weight is determined from the mass of bones, muscles, fat cells, internal organs, and fluid. You can lose a small amount of body weight by becoming dehydrated (not recommended) or lose more by dieting. Weight loss through dieting and exercise can help you lose pounds, but certain areas of the body may still have excess fat. If fat loss is a concern for you, SculpSure may be right for you.*

What are SculpSure laser treatments?

SculpSure is a non-invasive laser treatment that addresses fat cells.* The technology is based on using controlled temperatures to melt away fat cells.* The higher temperature “shocks” the fat cells, which then die over the next few weeks.* The body reacts to the injury and the immune system cleans up the damaged cells through lymphatics.* As a result, the treated area shrinks because you now have fewer fat cells.* The device has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat the body and achieve body contouring through fat reduction.* At La Follette OB-GYN & Aesthetics, we have the applicators to address stubborn fat in the abdomen, back, flanks (sides), thighs and the submental area (under the chin). Fat in the submental area often produces a “double chin” look, but now we can help you sculpt your neck and chin.

What’s a SculpSure treatment like?

The device has four heads, which are placed directly onto the patient’s skin in a special frame that holds the device’s heads in position. Having multiple heads allows our doctors to treat multiple areas at the same time. Each head passes light through the patient’s skin to the tissues below. The applicator head heats and chills the skin alternatively while killing the fat cells below.*

SculpSure treatments are not painful, although patients typically report a deep warmth and tingling sensation.* No downtime is required after the procedure, and people can immediately resume normal activities. Treatment of one area lasts 25 minutes and multiple areas can be done in the same session.* The makers of SculpSure recommend a series of treatments for optimal results.* Most patients start to see results after several weeks, with the full effects becoming noticeable after a few months.*
