What is Potenza RF microneedling?
Potenza is an FDA-approved radiofrequency microneedling treatment for the face and body. The providers at La Follette OB-GYN & Aesthetics use the Potenza device, which has ultrafine needles and radiofrequency energy, to penetrate the skin to target the deep layers of the skin. This process trigger’s the skin’s natural repair process which boosts the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins keep skin smooth, supple and tight. The regenerative response treats a variety of skin concerns, including signs of aging and sun damage (e.g., fine lines and wrinkles), uneven skin tone and texture, scarring, blemishes, skin laxity and stretch marks.
Microneedling also creates channels in the skin, which allow topical products to penetrate more deeply. This treatment is often performed with growth factors to speed healing and further optimize results.
How can Potenza RF microneedling help me?
Potenza RF microneedling treatments can be performed on all skin types and tones and on any area of the body. Patients who want to fade fine lines, firm up skin, and scarring are usually ideal candidates for radiofrequency microneedling treatments. These treatments do not interfere with skin of color or tanned skin, so they can be performed all-year-round–including summer!
What is the benefit of microneedling treatments that use RF energy?
The use of RF energy will trigger your body’s natural response to create an increased level of collagen and elastin production, resulting in an enhanced skin revitalization treatment versus microneedling alone.
What can I expect during treatments?
At La Follette OB-GYN & Aesthetics, your provider will apply a topical numbing cream prior to the procedure. Once you are numb, the handpiece is placed against your skin, allowing the radiofrequency energy and needles to penetrate. You may feel a stinging or mild burning sensation and light pressure from the needles as the device moves over the treatment area. Pinpoint bleeding is a normal occurrence but is limited to the time of the treatment. It is best to avoid alcohol the night before the treatment to minimize this.
How long does the treatment take?
Most treatments take less than 45 minutes. For optimal results, you will likely need an initial series of three or four sessions one month apart. We’ll discuss the perfect Potenza protocol for you based on your aesthetic goals. We don’t proceed until we’re sure you understand exactly what we are going to do and what you can expect and are certain this is the optimal treatment to help you improve your skin.
What are the pre & post-treatment instructions?
When you come in for treatment, be sure the area is clean and clean-shaven, you are not wearing any jewelry, and you are wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. Ask your provider if you need any pre-treatment or if you should continue with your regular skincare routine.
After treatment, you will need to continue to protect the area with SPF 50 sunblock, as well as use post-treatment supplies such as a gentle skin cleanser and moisturizer as directed by your provider. Use ice packs every two hours for 20 minutes at a time for the first 24 hours after treatment as directed for swelling and discomfort. Do not scratch or scrub the treated area. The next day you can wear makeup and resume normal activities.
What should I expect from the results?
Your skin should look smoother and be more glowing in about two weeks, but it can take 2-6 months to see the final results.* It takes a few weeks for your body to start making collagen and elastin after a Potenza treatment. While Potenza RF microneedling can be used as a single treatment for brightening and tightening skin for a major event, we recommend a multiple treatment protocol of at least three treatments for best results.
